Breadcoin’s three core programs work together to create local economies of dignity where food insecurity is reduced, the local economy is strengthened, and every person has an opportunity to experience human connection and the dignity of choosing their own nutritious meal.

● The Breadcoin Token Network

Expanding access to meals while supporting local businesses

Breadcoins are tokens valued at $3.00 that can be redeemed at any participating food vendor location as an accepted method of payment. The Breadcoin Token Network addresses the problem of the kitchen gap and strengthens local economies.

The Token Network is powered by interconnected groups of community members, donors, partners, and customers in each Breadcoin location who are committed to the shared belief that everyone deserves the dignity of choosing their own meal.

For people living without access to a kitchen, Breadcoin Tokens offer the dignity of choosing your own hot, nutritious meal. In turn, local food vendors enjoy the benefit of a new stream of customers and revenue, keeping money local and deepening connections within the community. These strong local connections also allow the Breadcoin Token Network to respond quickly during emergencies or following a disaster. With existing processes and systems in place, the Network can quickly work together to provide assistance to the most vulnerable members of the community.

Bringing people together through shared meals

The Breadcoin Table Network addresses the problem of social isolation, aiming to see tables of welcome set in every community in the country, beginning in the communities where Breadcoin operates.

The Breadcoin Table Network is built on the foundation of mutuality, and the belief that every person brings something of value to the table. In collaboration with participating Food Vendors, Breadcoin sets beautiful tables, complete with china and table linens, welcoming all members of the Breadcoin Token Network to sit together for a meal.

The Breadcoin Table Network provides all of us with the opportunity to look into the eyes of our neighbors and learn their stories. For all of history, people have gathered around shared meals to break bread and build mutual connections. Breadcoin believes this foundational human practice may be the key to addressing the modern epidemic of loneliness and isolation.

Through shared meals around a table, Breadcoin is reshaping hunger relief to look less like a soup kitchen line and more like a meal between friends, where everyone is welcome and where local communities thrive. To date, the Breadcoin Table Network has welcomed more than 4,000 people to shared tables of connection.

● The BREADCOIN LOAN NETWORK

Expanding access to capital for local food businesses

The Breadcoin Loan Network strengthens otherwise overlooked local economies by providing access to financing for small businesses that would typically not qualify for traditional business loans.

Vendors who are part of the Breadcoin Token Network have access to this benefit, and have the additional option of repaying their loan in Breadcoin Tokens. In this way, the two programs mutually complement and strengthen one another, injecting new life into local economies.

When unexpected expenses hit or an opportunity to expand is just out of reach, small local businesses in underserved communities often lack access to the capital they need to bridge an expense gap or fund a new venture. The Breadcoin Loan Network fills this gap, by providing Vendors in the Breadcoin Token Network with access to microloans. These loans keep businesses open, facilitate new growth, and prevent the use of other high-interest loan options that vendors have turned to in the past. To date, the Breadcoin Loan Network has provided vendors with 16 loans, at a combined total of more than $143,000.
