Breadcoin began to operate in Tampa, FL in February 2023.
Breadcoin Tampa launched on February 1, 2023 at a community meeting hosted by the Portico Cafe (the state’s first participating vendor). The Breadcoin token began to circulate in Florida because of the generosity of the Gloria Dei Foundation and the vision of Ann and Mike Doyle (co-founders of Dorothy Day Tampa) to bring the Breadcoin food token to Tampa.
Breadcoin Tampa will serve as a guide for future city expansions including other cities in Florida.

TAMPA, FL. (June 27, 2023) – Breadcoin Foundation Ltd., a DC-based nonprofit expanded its innovative food system to Tampa 2/1/2023 – the first city in Florida where local food vendors accept Breadcoins – food tokens that work like a community-wide gift certificate – as payment.
Breadcoin’s three focus areas: (1) The need – We provide a point of connection, the dignity of food choice, and reduce isolation; (2) The work – A food token connects and weaves the community together; and (3) The result – We feed with dignity, engage, and support local food businesses in underserved areas. Imagine the possibilities……

What is Breadcoin? Breadcoin is an innovative food token that connects the community, feeds with dignity, and supports local vendors. A physical token worth $2.50 that works like a community-wide gift certificate at participating food vendors.
Breadcoin expanded to Tampa. It is the first city in Florida where Breadcoins are accepted as a form of payment. The food token was launched during a community information meeting where 48 curious stakeholders joined us on the second floor of the Portico for lunch. The Tampa community welcomed Breadcoin Founder Scott Borger and Co-Founder Cary Umhau from Washington, DC for the launch.
