Nutrition Education & Breadcoin

Nonprofits are purchasing and distributing Breadcoins within their own programming to further support their constituents’ needs.

Arlington Thrive implemented this model at their Meals to Thrive On: Savoring Community event on March 9, 2024.

Located in Northern Virginia, Arlington Thrive exists to empower low-income and immigrant neighbors to thrive in their jobs, health, and homes.

This Meals to Thrive On event promoted nutrition education through cooking demonstrations, healthy and affordable recipe cards, and access to food resource experts. Arlington Thrive partnered with a Breadcoin vendor, Cafe at Kitchen of Purpose, to cater and educate at this event. With a mission to “create opportunities for social and economic change through feeding, educating, and empowering the minds of the community,” Kitchen of Purpose was an ideal partner for this event.

To kickstart their health journey, attendees were given $50 worth of Breadcoin tokens as well as a $50 grocery gift card. Participants were pleasantly surprised to learn that Breadcoins enabled them to have the dignity of choice in purchasing “anything on the menu!” Seen below, Manager of Kitchen Operations, Chef Jon Coombs, explains Kitchen of Purpose programs before beginning his cooking demonstration.
