Hedzole is a contemporary Ghanian-American restaurant serving pan-African soul food in DC. Hedzole’s founder and owner, Candice Mensah, has familial roots in Accra, Ghana and she credits her mother as the inspiration behind her business. She says, “growing up I didn’t always see food like this that was accessible” (Fox 5 DC Interview).
Mensah has beautifully developed a menu that draws from her Ghanaian roots and integrates influences from across the African diaspora. The word “Hedzole” comes from the Ga Adangbe ethnic group of Ghana and it means “freedom.” Mensah chose this name for her business because it has brought her freedom.
We encourage you to support this local entrepreneur in her pursuit of spreading pan-African soul food across DC! Grab a friend and some Breadcoins and grab a meal! It is open Wed – Friday (1 – 8) and Sat & Sun (12 – 5).
