Breadcoin’s first Flash Table of 2026 was set outside Addie Loves Soul Food in Northeast Washington. While the neighborhood is often described as a food desert, what filled the space that afternoon was something very different: music, conversation, laughter, and tables full of people lingering long after the meal was finished.
Over the course of the event, around 130 meals were served at beautifully set tables where every passerby was invited to stop, sit, and be served. Strangers learned each other’s names. Conversations about family, resilience, heritage, and hope bubbled up at every table.
That is the heart of a Flash Table. A Flash Table is more than an outdoor meal. It is an intentional gathering built around the belief that every person deserves dignity, welcome, and connection. Every detail — the white tablecloths, real plates, cloth napkins, flowers, and shared tables — communicates the same message: you belong here.
Breadcoin creates Flash Tables because many people go long periods of time without sitting at a table where someone serves them with care and takes time to know their story. At a Flash Table, volunteers do not stand above guests or simply hand out food. They sit together, eat together, and create space for community to form naturally around the table.
A special thank you goes to the team at Addie Loves Soul and our incredible volunteers, whose hospitality, care, and hard work helped make the day feel like a celebration of the neighborhood itself.
