Longtime advocate and Tampa Bay volunteer to lead the organization’s growth across the state

Breadcoin today announced the appointment of Jayne M. Cabigas as Executive Director for Florida. Cabigas brings more than 25 years of nonprofit advocacy leadership and seven years of hands-on service alongside Tampa Bay’s unhoused community to the role.

Breadcoin is a nonprofit that helps people access prepared meals with dignity by partnering with local restaurants, cafés, food trucks, and markets. Since launching in Tampa in 2023, the organization has built a growing network of participating vendors and community partners across the state. In her new role, Cabigas will lead efforts to raise the organization’s profile, recruit new business and faith partners, expand fundraising, and extend Breadcoin’s reach across Florida.

“Jayne brings exactly what this role asks for. The experience to build something at scale and the heart to do it with dignity,” said Scott Borger, founder and CEO of Breadcoin. “For years she has shown up on Sunday mornings to serve breakfast to unhoused neighbors through the ministries of Hyde Park United Methodist Church, and she has already been working alongside our team in Tampa. She knows this community, and this community knows her. We’re thrilled to have her lead our work in Florida.”

Cabigas has served breakfast to unhoused guests most Sundays since 2019 through Hyde Park United Methodist Church and The Portico, where volunteers welcome 150 to 200 guests each week. She has lived and volunteered in Tampa Bay for nearly 13 years.

Before moving to Florida, Cabigas directed advocacy and lobbying efforts for several national nonprofits in Washington, D.C., including the National Kidney Foundation and the American Lung Association, where she built coalitions, organized volunteers, and advanced health policy at the federal level. Her fundraising experience includes serving as capital campaign co-chair for a $1.5 million campaign with the Ecumenical Community of Chautauqua and leading a stewardship campaign at a large church congregation. She has also served as Government Relations Chair for the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

“Breadcoin restores something that gets stripped away from people living on the margins — the ability to walk in, order a meal, and be treated like a customer,” said Cabigas. “I’ve spent years working to change policy, and that work matters. But seeing dignity restored to someone in real time, right in front of you, is why I wanted this job. Breadcoin has built a strong foundation in Tampa, and I’m eager to help it grow across Florida.”

Cabigas holds a Master of Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School, where her coursework focused on religion in society and the politics of social change, and a Bachelor of Arts with honors in political science from Guilford College. She lives in St. Petersburg.
